About Jordens Arv
Healthy soil is one of our most valuable natural resources. It stores water, supports biodiversity, regulates nutrients, and creates the foundation for resilient plant growth. Yet around the world, soil is increasingly under pressure from intensive cultivation practices and environmental degradation.Jordens Arv is a Norwegian company developing natural clay-based solutions that support healthier soils and more resilient plant growth.
Jordens Arv AS was founded from a simple conviction: nature must be regarded as our first and most important client. Every solution we develop should strengthen natural processes rather than work against them. If a solution cannot support both people and the environment over time, it has limited value. Our work centres around one of Earth's oldest and most overlooked resources: Clay. Through research, cultivation trials, and practical application, we explore how natural clay can improve soil function, support plant resilience, and contribute to more regenerative growing practices.Jordens Arv was founded by Stina Ságá, whose interdisciplinary background bridges psychology and art, with a particular focus on clay as her artistic medium.
The company was originally established during university studies, where clay-based products were sold to support the Norwegian Society for the Conservation of Nature (Naturvernforbundet). Giving back to nature has remained a core principle ever since.
As the company grows, we hope to expand these efforts internationally.
Our ambition is to collaborate with environmental organisations and dedicate a portion of future revenue to nature restoration, environmental research, and initiatives that strengthen biodiversity and ecosystem resilience.Jordens Arv exists to work alongside nature and to develop solutions that support healthier soils for future generations.
Why Clay ?
Clay is a mineral formed over millions of years as mountains gradually break down through the forces of ice, water, wind, and time.
It is one of the foundations of fertile, resilient landscapes capable of sustaining life for generations.
Clay is a defining characteristic of fertile soils around the world. It enables soil to retain nutrients, store water during dry periods and release it when needed, while also providing a habitat for the microorganisms that support healthy ecosystems and nourish plants.Clay can be thought of as the soil's memory, a mineral library where the history of an ecosystem is built layer by layer. Across climates and ecosystems, fertile soils share one common characteristic: the presence of clay. Farmers may adapt techniques, crops, and cultivation methods, but without clay, the very foundation that makes agriculture possible would not exist.Modern potting soils are often designed for convenience, but they do not always reflect the complexity of natural soils. In nature, soil is a living system composed of minerals, clay, organic matter, water, air, and countless microorganisms working together. Our ambition is not to reinvent nature, but to bring cultivated soils closer to the balance found in natural ecosystems. By reintroducing clay, we aim to restore one of the fundamental building blocks that healthy soils have always depended on.Clay is one of humanity's oldest and most timeless resources. It supported life long before agriculture existed and continues to play a vital role today. Rather than replacing nature's own systems, we believe there is much to learn from it.Perhaps the future does not always require new materials. Sometimes it begins by rediscovering those that have supported life all along.
Research & Development
Clay Crush is made from a carefully selected natural clay identified through comparative laboratory analysis. Rather than selecting clay for soil structure alone, the selection process focused on identifying a clay with a documented naturally occurring nutrient profile alongside water-retention and soil-supporting properties.Clay Crush has been developed for over three years.-Through a structured process of laboratory analysis, cultivation trials, and independent validation.
The findings below summarise the observations made throughout the product's development.LABORATORY ANALYSES
Multiple natural clay types were systematically collected, analysed, and compared with one guiding question: which clay could work in harmony with the soil's own processes rather than disturb them?
Laboratory analyses performed by Eurofins, together with dialogue with horticultural professionals and research communities in Norway, identified one clay that stood out. It showed a favourable combination of high naturally occurring nutrients, neutral pH, a very low salt burden.CULTIVATION TRIALS
Following the laboratory analyses, extensive internal cultivation trials were carried out using identical plants grown alongside control groups.
The observations were significant enough to warrant independent validation. An independent two-month cultivation trial in Norway was subsequently conducted under the supervision of a professional horticulturist.KEY FINDINGS
-Basil plants grown with Clay Crush showed faster growth during the first four weeks compared to plants receiving chemical fertilizer.-Plants grown with Clay Crush maintained stronger leaf structure, colour, and overall appearance during repeated handling and relocation.-Established plants, including Tetrastigma, developed new shoots faster and produced denser, healthier foliage compared to control plants.NUTRIENT INTERACTION
An additional observation was made when Clay Crush was combined with chemical fertilizer. The horticulturist assessed that the observed leaf deformation and slower growth were consistent with symptoms of excess nutrient availability, particularly nitrogen.
This observation suggests an important aspect of Clay Crush: because the selected clay naturally contains a broad range of nutrients.-Combining it with additional chemical fertilizer may provide more nutrients than plants require under certain growing conditions.
This finding has become an important direction for future research into nutrient balance and clay–soil interactions.PRODUCT FACTS

Working with nature
As climate and environmental challenges continue to grow, there is an increasing need for solutions that work with nature rather than against it.Healthy soils are among our planet's most valuable natural resources. They support biodiversity, store water, regulate nutrients, capture carbon, and provide the foundation for food production.Modern agriculture has helped feed a growing world, while also highlighting the importance of protecting the natural systems that sustain life over time. Building resilient soils is increasingly recognised as one of the key challenges for the future. No single product can solve these challenges. Lasting change will come through many small improvements, supported by science, innovation, and a deeper understanding of natural processes.Clay Crush is one small contribution to that journey.
Clay Crush guide
What is Clay Crush?
Clay Crush is a one-ingredient Plant Formula developed to combine three complementary functions. It supports soil structure, contributes naturally occurring nutrients, and helps the soil retain and gradually release water. Together, these functions help create growing conditions that are closer to those found in healthy natural soils.Produced in Norway, Clay Crush is registered with Debio and approved for use in organic cultivation.Clay Crush is prepared in small batches using manual processes inspired by traditional crafting techniques.HOW TO USE CLAY CRUSH
For most applications, only three components are needed:
-A drainage layer, such as LECA
-Potting soil
-Clay Crush
Mix Clay Crush directly into the potting soil.
As a general guideline, use approximately one tablespoon for a medium-sized plant. Larger plants may require more, while smaller plants require less. One container of Clay Crush typically treats approximately nine medium-sized plants, depending on pot size.ONE-TIME APPLICATION
Clay Crush is designed to be applied once.Once incorporated into the soil, the clay particles become a permanent part of its structure. They continue to absorb and gradually release water while gradually contributing their naturally occurring nutrients throughout the life of the soil without being consumed or degraded.Additional application is only needed when new potting soil is added.Clay Crush may also help extend the lifespan of potting soil and reduce the need for frequent soil replacement. For further guidance, please refer to the packaging instructions or visit our Instagram page.
FAQ
1. Why was Clay Crush created?
Clay Crush was created from a simple question: What if healthier plants begin with healthier soil?
Many gardening routines rely on adding different products over time to solve individual problems. We wanted to explore another approach by improving the growing environment itself.
After three years of comparative laboratory analyses, cultivation trials and product development, this led to Clay Crush: a one-ingredient Plant Formula developed from one carefully selected natural clay.2. What is the difference between natural soil and potting soil?
Natural soil develops over hundreds or thousands of years and contains minerals, clay particles, microorganisms and complex physical structures.
Potting soil, on the other hand, is a manufactured growing medium designed to be lightweight, clean and practical for containers. Although highly effective for cultivation, it does not contain the same natural mineral composition as soil found in nature.
Clay Crush was developed to help restore some of these natural functions by improving the growing environment itself.3. What is Clay Crush?
Clay Crush is a one-ingredient Plant Formula developed from one carefully selected natural clay.
Rather than performing just one task, it combines three complementary functions by supporting soil structure, contributing naturally occurring nutrients, and helping the soil retain and gradually release water.4. Is Clay Crush made from ordinary clay?
No.
Clay Crush is made from one carefully selected quality clay identified through comparative laboratory analysis.
The quality of the clay is fundamental because the entire Plant Formula depends on the natural properties of this single ingredient. It is not based on ordinary clay, but on a selected clay chosen for its unique combination of soil-supporting characteristics.5. Why was this clay selected?
The clay was selected after comparative laboratory analysis and extensive cultivation trials.
The goal was not simply to find a clay that improves soil structure, but to identify one that also contains a documented naturally occurring nutrient profile while helping create healthier growing conditions.6. Is the clay in Clay Crush the same as the clay used in premium potting soils?
No.
Some premium potting soils contain clay to improve soil structure or water retention. But often it is added chemical nutrients.
Clay Crush uses a quality clay chosen for a broader combination of naturally occurring properties, including supporting soil structure, contributing naturally occurring nutrients and helping regulate water through a single application.7. Is Clay Crush a fertilizer?
No.
Clay Crush is a Plant Formula.
Rather than acting as a conventional fertilizer, it supports the growing environment itself by improving soil structure, contributing naturally occurring nutrients and helping soil retain and gradually release water.8. Why is only one application needed?
Many gardening products are designed to be applied repeatedly throughout the growing season.
Clay Crush was developed with a different philosophy.
The quality clay becomes part of the growing medium itself, where it continues supporting the soil over time after a single application.9. Why is Clay Crush different from many gardening products?
Many gardening products are designed to solve one specific need and are intended for repeated use.
Clay Crush was developed from a different idea.
Instead of adding more products over time, Clay Crush improves the growing environment itself by combining three complementary functions in one carefully selected natural ingredient through a single application.10. Why does Clay Crush cost more than ordinary plant products?
Clay Crush is not designed to compete with ordinary plant additives.
Rather than focusing on low cost or repeated sales, Clay Crush was developed as a long-lasting Plant Formula built on carefully selected raw materials, quality craftsmanship and sustainable thinking.
Its value lies not only in what it contains, but in the long-term growing environment it helps create.11. Does Clay Crush support sustainable gardening?
Yes.
Clay Crush was developed to support a more sustainable way of growing by working with the soil itself rather than relying on multiple separate products.
It is registered with Debio and approved for use in organic cultivation.
The product is packaged in recyclable glass from Scandinavia, with environmentally friendly paper labels, reflecting our commitment to long-lasting quality, responsible material choices and working with nature.
